Get Involved in Preparations for America's 250th Anniversary in Noble County

Community leaders, organizations, and residents met on February 19 to

continue planning Noble County’s America 250 celebrations, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The meeting focused on event logistics, funding opportunities, and community engagement initiatives.


Planning Highlights

A nine day celebration, from June 25 – July 4, 2026, is in the works, including:

  • Avilla Freedom Festival to kick off with expanded parade

  • Fireworks in Kendallville and Rome City to act as the "grand finale" on July 4, 2026

  • Special Presidential Reenactments at Stone’s Trace Historical Society in Ligonier on Sunday, June 28, 2026

  • Passports Program encouraging visits to museums, historic sites, and libraries

  • Noble County Block Party on the Courthouse Square-Albion on July 3, 2026, featuring:

    • Live music, including a 90-minute performance by Local Artists

    • The National Anthem sung by local talents; Gabe Norris was mentioned

    • Local show choir performances from public and private schools

    • Courthouse tours (exterior & interior)

    • Food trucks offering unique desserts/sodas/shaved ice

    • An event to lead people to enjoy the Albion Fireworks at Dusk

  • Revolutionary War to Present-Day Tribute, hoping to coordinate with local VFWs and American Legion posts.


Discussions are ongoing to coordinate fireworks displays and organize special downtown promotions with local restaurants and businesses.


Community Involvement & Sponsorship

The committee is exploring sponsorship opportunities at Red, White, and Blue levels to support event funding. Additionally, plans are underway for:

  • A countywide art and essay contest

  • A coloring contest for children

  • Copies of the U.S. Constitution to be distributed

  • Reenactments and historical performances, including potential appearances by Presidential impersonators and a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence


Local organizations, such as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), are actively involved, with the DAR providing books about patriots to local schools.


Next Steps

The committee will continue planning efforts, with the next meeting scheduled for May 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Cole Room at the Noble County Public Library in Albion. The team is also exploring virtual meeting options to expand participation.
